Digital Eyewear in Cardiology-Looking Forward

Authors: Stephen J Leslie and Charles Knoery

Abstract: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide and consumes a large proportion of health care budgets due to acute admissions to hospital, hospital transfers, investigations, treatment and outpatient follow up. Managing CVD in remote areas may be particularly challenging (and expensive) as there are additional geographical barriers to patients gaining specialist care and advice. This has a led to a feeling that the current situation is not sustainable and that we must change or adapt the way we provide healthcare.

Brugada Type 1 ECG Caused by an RVOT Tumor

Authors: Bruno Schnegg, Jens Seiler, Thomas M Suter, Hildegard Tanner and Helge Servatius

Abstract: A 66-year-old female patient without any relevant medical history other than rectal cancer was admitted for biopsy of a peri-myocardial tumor after the incidental finding of a mass in the region of the ventral right ventricle in a follow-up positron emission tomography with computed tomography (PET-CT). Diagnostic investigation revealed a cardiac metastasis of the rectal cancer affecting the anterior right ventricle, obstructing the right ventricular outflow tract, and causing a type 1 Brugada ECG.

Flow Velocity, Fluid Dynamics and Vascular Pathophysiology

Authors: Gundu HR Rao

Abstract: Diseases of blood vessels cause more morbidity and mortality than combined impact of any other major noncommunicable disease (NCD) including cancer. By and large, these diseases are diagnosed by monitoring known risk factors. Th management of the disease is more or less limited to the management of the risk factors. We strongly feel, that development of a therapy system based on the management of disease of the vessel, than management of the risk factors, will yield better results and provide better opportunity for individualized therapy.
